Lou Reed

Lou Reed Poster The second ever UNDER THE INFLUENCE was a tribute to Lou Reed and  featured performances from some fantastic artists, all inspired by Reed yet all widely different to each other. KIT SAM KIRR kicked things off with his take on “Candy Says’, MATT POLLARD followed with a plaintive and markedly more meloncholic version of “Who Loves The Sun”.  THE LUCKY FACE performed “After Hours”, adding his own growl in place of Mo Tucker’s softer more fragile original. BOB CONSTANT & THE GOODBYE HORSES added their luxurious vocals and languid dissonance to “Pale Blue Eyes” while, MAN OR MOUSE, played  a great version of “ANDY’S CHEST’ and spoke of their first experience of Lou Reed. LIZ ARCANE stunned the room into silence with a daring version of Reed’s bleak “The Bed”. The night came to an end with  anti-folk favourites; DAVID CRONENBERG’S WIFE playing ‘Heroin” but not before they playfully performed a version of Jonathan Richman’s “The Velvet Underground”
